Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer is more common in Caucasians than Asian men. Common between the age of 20 to 40. One of most curable cancer.

Main risk factors are family history and from testis not descended in to the scrotum.

Common presentation is lump in the testis. Testicular pain, infection and distant metastases. Are other modes of presentation.

Diagnosis of testicular cancer is made by.
  • History and physical examination
  • USG scrotum
  • CT scan/PET scan
  • Blood test for testicular tumor markers

Biopsy is rarely performed.

Main treatment of testicular cancer is
  • Surgery- Radical orchidectomy

Based on the histology and risk factors further treatment may be needed like
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy

Active surveillance for recurrence of cancer is strongly recommended. Sperm banking is needed if chemotherapy is indicated following surgery.
